Alberta was the first province in Canada to create a 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. This Plan recognizes both the social and financial benefits of tackling a key community issue. The Calgary Homeless Foundation recognizes that achieving this goal cannot be done by government and philanthropic funding alone. In his role as Vice President of Social Enterprise, Gerrad is focused on creating new tools and new ways to fund community good.
With over 20 years of experience in bringing new ventures to life within the energy, technology and nonprofit sectors, Gerrad is often called upon to create new opportunities that serve as a bridge between the business and nonprofit sectors. He has served as the Provincial Board chairman for the Alberta Government Ministry of Children and Youth, and Board Chairman of the Brenda Strafford Foundation a social enterprise that operates seniors care facilities, affordable housing, orphanages, medical clinics and women’s shelters.
Gerrad holds a degree in engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the University of Calgary. He was named Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 in 2006 and received a Calgary Award from the City of Calgary for his work as a community advocate.
