Donovan’s work focuses on translating great sustainable business ideas into great sustainable businesses.

In June of 2013, Donovan became the managing director of RADIUS Ventures, an impact business accelerator at the Beedie School of Business (Simon Fraser University), funded by Vancity Credit Union.  In this role, Donovan is responsible for getting a range of impact businesses market and investor ready.

Since 2010, Donovan has run Transom Enterprises to cultivate new sustainability oriented business initiatives. Projects include:

  • Persephone Brewing Company: fundraising, business development support, and farm strategy for this farm-based craft brewery launching in 2013
  • Institute B: Entrepreneur in Residence, managing major projects and strategic initiatives for iB partner companies
  • Alterrus: The establishment of Local Garden, a vertical urban farm in downtown Vancouver
  • Rainforest Solutions Project: development of a marketing strategy to maximize conservation, climate and financial benefit from carbon market opportunities in the Great Bear Rainforest
  • Ecotrust: independent valuation of an ecotourism asset, supporting a transaction between a First Nation, guide outfitter, and conservation financer.

Prior to Transom, Donovan spent four years as COO with Offsetters Clean Technology, Canada’s leading carbon offset and carbon management firm.  He joined as Offsetters’ first employee and built it into a 24-person team with a blue-chip list of clients and partners.

He has also worked for Vancity, BC Hydro, and Ecotrust and worked the graveyard shift at a half-way house.

Donovan has a Master of Business Administration from UBC’s Sauder School of Business, a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Community Economic Development, and an undergraduate degree (Hon.) in philosophy.
