It is hoped ‘impact’ will be a crucial component of the conversations throughout all of SEWF 2013, but we wanted to put that primacy of purpose front and centre. So we are taking a page out of Stephen Covey’s iconic book and beginning SEWF 2013 with a deliberate focus on the end point of everything we do, ‘impact’. The opening plenary will look at impact from three angles – creating it, measuring it, and collaborating to take it to the next level.

From talent recruitment and succession planning to idea generation, idea execution, and the general well-being of planet, youth engagement in social impact a careers touches anyone dedicated to social enterprise or social innovation.
This main stage plenary is the first of a two-part SEWF 2013 effort to focus on this crucial issue. The main stage session will take a ‘broad sweep’ at this issue and involve all SEWF attendees. Topics may include: social enterprise careers can’t offer competitive pay, students don’t know how to access opportunities at for-profit or non-profit social enterprises, and students aren’t prepared for jobs in this sector.
The next day a breakout session (Friday, October 4 • 10:15am - 11:45 am) will target some of the insights and recommendations emanating from the main stage session and try to develop concrete ‘next steps’.
